  1. Vanilla Beans.
  2. Alcohol like Vodka, Rum or Brandy.

Here the question, How To Make The Best Homemade Vanilla Extract totally depends on the quality of vanilla beans, used to make the extract. I recommend you to use beans called Gourmet or Grade A vanilla beans.

After soaking it for minimum 1 month, extract is ready to use. Moreover, the longer you keep the beans immersed in alcohol the better flavor you get. Don’t remove the beans even after you start using the extract because it continue to flavor the extract. This way you can get better vanilla extract.

Ingredients required for making Vanilla Extract

  • 4 – 5 strands Vanilla Beans
  • ¾ cup Vodka (187 ml or 6.4 ounce)

Instructions

Steps for making Vanilla Extract

  • Collect all the required ingredients and equipment like 4 to 5 vanilla beans, ¾ cup vodka and jar or bottle.
  • Cut the vanilla beans vertically from middle using knife or chop them into smaller pieces.
  • Take a jar/bottle add the vanilla beans and pour the vodka, stir lightly with stirrer.
  • Make sure beans are completely immersed into the vodka.
  • Now store the jar/bottle at cool and dry place.
  • Stir the beans once a week and allow beans to steep in vodka for at least a month.
  • After completion of period, you can notice the changes in color from transparent to dark brown.

Notes

Just remember the longer you keep the better and potent flavour you get.
With the remaining beans from extract, allow the beans to pat dry and you can add to sugar jar to get vanilla flavoured sugar.
